a. Within 35 days, excluding Saturdays, Sundays and legal holidays, from the filing of an initiative petition, the City Clerk shall examine the petition in accordance with law to determine whether it contains the requisite number of qualified electors’ signatures. At the conclusion of the examination, the City Clerk shall file a certificate in the official records of the City showing the result of the examination.

b. If the City Clerk’s certificate shows the petition to be insufficient, the City Clerk shall notify a person listed on the application of its insufficiency. The City Clerk shall return the petition to a person listed on the application, without prejudice to the filing of a new petition for the same purpose. (Ord. No. G-5390, § 1, 2009; Ord.
